Pania Reef Fisheries is  a partnership with Hawkes Bay Seafoods.

Pania Reef Fisheries (GP Limited

In October 2016 the KAHC purchased a 50% share in the 34 metre trawler the Glomfjord  and set out to establish a new joint  venture partnership.

For Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi, the  purchase of the Glomfjord is the realisation of a 30 year dream to own and operate a fishing trawler.  The goals of this partnership are to increase the financial returns from the KAHC deep water quota holdings, to increase the employment opportunities for our people  and to provide a career path for our people into the commercial fishing industry.

The Glomfjord took five months to be relocated from Denmark to New Zealand via the Panama Canal.  The Glomfjord arrived in Nelson in late March 2017 and spent three months on its initial refurbishment plan. It began fishing in July 2017 firstly under contract to Sealords Nelson and is currently based in Napier.  The Glomfjord is due to undertake its first Maritime Operator Safety System survey in March 2018 where it will be taken onto the slip at Nelson. During this time work will also be undertaken to complete the refurbishment plan for the Glomfjord.

The  KAHC Directors appointed onto the joint venture to oversee the partnership are Rangi Manuel and Heather Te Au Skipworth.

Our asset portfolio has increased in value and includes  fishing quota, shares in Aotearoa Fisheries Limited, Pania Reef Fisheries (GP) Limited, Takitimu Seafoods (GP) Limited and the Fiordland Lobster Company Limited.
